Ditched the HTC One X for the Samsung Galaxy S3

After many problems with the International HTC One X, I returned it and got a new Samsung Galaxy S3. More on this story later!

Adventures in Battery Problems - Part 1

Part of the problem with Android is the battery life generally leaves something to be desired. In my iPhone review, I stated that one of the features I liked best about my iPhone was the crazy good battery life. So far living with the HTC One X has been a nightmare as far as battery life is concerned. I was barely getting half a day of use with just under 4 hours of screen time before the battery was totally dead. Even more troubling, the phone draws so much power while in use that if you use it while plugged in the battery can barely charge.

This is part 1 of my struggle to get the HTC One X to last an entire day.

Work has kept me extremely busy as of late so I haven't been able to contribute to my blog as often as I would like. I'm working on an extended post about battery issues with the phone. I hope to have that available no later than this weekend.

Running with Android Part 1

So, I went running today with my HTC One X. I hurt my shoulder about two weeks ago and I haven't been on a long run for a while. I only went a quick 2k and walked home. The lighter weight was really great. I know it's only 10 grams lighter than my iPhone (plus whatever the case weighs) but I could really notice a difference. It may have also been the larger size prevented the phone from slinging around in my pocket. On the downside, I was very concerned about sweat getting into the phone. I'm not sure why, but I just never cared about that with my iPhone as I just assumed it would live through it. Maybe it's because of the iPhone is mostly made of glass instead of soft plastic. Not that I don't like the soft plastic, but I'm worried about sweat ruining it.

The Device is Chosen

I have picked and purchased my Android device. To give Android the best possible chance of success (and because I am kind of a gear snob) I am getting the HTC One X international unlocked version that I picked up from newegg for $650.00 . This is HTC's flagship phone for 2012 and is widely considered to be the best built Android ever made, with the best looking screen, and arguably the fastest processor.

I feel it is important to discuss the decision process that I went through to pick the HTC One X, especially considering that the decision process for the iPhone is actually quite different.

Before The Beginning of the Swap

Inspired by the Tumblr blog "My Dinner With Android", I have decided to do much the same and give Android a fair chance to convert me. In short, between now and the (probable) 3Q 2012 release of the iPhone 5, I am going to buy an unlocked Android phone and experience it for myself. This means the phone I buy has about six months to convince me NOT to buy an iPhone 5. 

Following Ryan Heise's lead, I decided to make a blog about my experiences with Android over the next six months or so. Along the way I will try to make some videos and posts about my experiences. To be clear, I'm not trying to prove that iOS or Android is superior once and for all. "My Dinner with Android" didn't really solve that issue, and I don't expect that this will either. My goal ultimately is to be entertaining and informative, probably in that order. But, and I mean this very seriously, this is a an even-handed, unbiased, unrigged test that can ultimately result in one less iPhone 5 launch day purchase. 

Will it happen?
